Two paths diverge in a wooded grove…and I can’t pick.

Well it seems my future plans have been decided for me on the fact I waited a little too long. Now the Army and School of Mines have a few strings tying me to go there and do ROTC. It’s not that I’m not excited for college. It’s just I’m kind of leaning towards the Marines as a branch to enter as an officer. Originally, the Marines were the ones I wanted to get a commission with. I just didn’t adequately do my research as I missed what PLC (Platoon Leaders Class). Now I think it’s a bit late for me to do it. From my understanding, it’s were a reservist in college applies to PLC. Supposedly it’s a big packet of information you need to send and is selective. After completing your training as an enlisted Marine and accepted into PLC, you’ll be unemployable. You’ll do a 10 week training session where you will be paid for your time there. (Think of it as summer camp.) Once you graduate, you’ll receive a commission as a second lieutenant and move right on to your training as an officer.

As far is it being selective and a big packet of info, the academies had the same criteria but they weren’t that difficult. Would have even gotten a nomination for the academies if my counselors weren’t so slow to get me my transcript. I don’t think it takes 4 WEEKS to get a student his transcripts. The academies asked for a lot of info and 4 different essays. Not much of a problem. The Army offered me a scholarship and that is supposedly selective. I guess I only have…3 days to decide if I want to break all the ties to the Army and college so I can enlist. I’d skip the first half year of college to get a fair portion of my training done. Then start college in the spring. Right now though, I think I’ll give ROTC a chance. If I don’t like it by the end of the first year, to the Marines.
