Califur is coming up this weekend: May 16-18, 2008, in Irvine, CA. Reply if you're going!
Howdy! My real name is Ian, but my nickname/furname is Bucker. You can call me whichever you prefer and I'll respond to either of them.
I'm a 22 year old grad student at CGU just starting my masters degree program in musicology. I received my undergraduate degree in Linguistics and Anthropology at UCLA.
Other than that, I'm a fuskyote: a fox, husky, coyote hybrid. I stand 5'10" tall and weigh approximately 170 lbs (although this tends to fluctuate between 160 and 180 depending on circumstances). I enjoy living life and filling my time with lots of friends and activities. I enjoy a wide variety of things and I've got a tail that loves to wag.
First of all, I'm a musician. I'm a professional singer (have sung on several movie trailer music recordings as well as in live performances) and also enjoy playing a lot of instruments. I play a lot of Irish and Scottish traditional music and thus play bouzouki, whistle, bodhran, Irish tenor banjo, mandolin, and bones. I also play bass guitar, guitar, piano, and harpsichord. I also enjoy composing from time to time.
I also am a big rodeo fan. I try to watch it whenever it's on TV and go to the rodeo when it's in town. I'm not as big of a fan of PBR because it's only bull riding, but I do watch that, too. At rodeos, I open up the chutes and help more the bucking stock through the chutes. It's a lot of fun, but I'd love to compete one of these days.
I also enjoy reading and writing a lot. I don't have as much time to write as I'd like, but I do enjoy writing furry stories. I also enjoy reading furry stories (and a lot more as well). I enjoy reading about the latest on astronomy and cosmology because I am fascinated by things not of this world (especially galaxies and galactic formation). I also love to read about historical linguistics.
Speaking of languages, I love to learn languages. I've tried my hand at several so far and have a fairly good command of Japanese and Swahili. I have a reading knowledge of Latin and Old Norse. I'm okay at speaking Hindi. I also know tidbits of a bunch of other languages like Middle Egyptian, Italian, German, French, and Zulu. I enjoy studying grammar and historical linguistics the most. In a similar vein, I also enjoy studying the various orthographies of the world.
I also enjoy programming from time to time. It's my main job (when I'm not in school). I especially enjoy server side scripting and have experience with both PHP and ASP. I also have experience in C++, C, sed, BASIC, HTML, and Javascript. I enjoy writing little transliteration programs the most.
I love going to conventions, especially furry ones. I always have a great time there visiting my friends and hanging out. You can usually find me performing there, too. I especially love dancing at the dances with all the fursuiters, a group of folks which I hope to consider myself one of soon. Here is a list of the conventions that I regularly attend:
Further Confusion (FC)
Califur
Califurdiego
Anthrocon (AC)
Rainfurrest
I also attend the yearly Furbecue in Irvine and attend as many of the PS parties as my schedule allows.
