To be honest, it doesn't matter how secure your home PC is, you're still vulnerable to a man-in-the-middle attack, which is what SSL protects against.
You don't have a VPN encrypted tunnel directly to myfursona.com, and since regular HTTP logins are sent in plain text, it would be pretty simple for someone to do some spoofing and steal passwords, but SSL protects against that.
